iCoat Epoxy Restores W Scottsdale Bar, Extending the Life of an Existing Commercial Surface
TelAve News/10906795
iCoat Contractor uses CT60 Countertop Epoxy to create a food-safe, durable, and easy-to-clean surface while preserving the natural character of the wood
PHOENIX - TelAve -- A commercial bar needs to withstand constant use, remain easy to clean, and provide a food-safe surface in a busy hospitality environment.
That was the challenge addressed in a recent restoration project at W Scottsdale, where iCoat Contractor Joe Casey of Artistic Countertops & Coatings transformed a worn, varnished wood bar using iCoat CT60 Countertop Epoxy.
W Scottsdale is part of W Hotels, Marriott International's luxury lifestyle hotel brand. The Scottsdale property features dining, nightlife, events, and other high-traffic hospitality experiences.
Restore Instead of Replace
The existing wood bar had been finished with varnish. After heavy use, the surface had become worn and cracked, making it difficult to clean and maintain to the standards expected in a luxury hotel.
Rather than remove and replace the bar, Casey stripped the existing finish down to the bare wood and applied iCoat CT60 Countertop Epoxy. The result was a durable, food-safe, easy-to-clean surface designed for commercial use while helping protect and extend the life of the underlying wood.

Commercial Performance Without Losing the Natural Look
W Scottsdale wanted to preserve the natural character of the wood rather than create the traditional high-gloss appearance associated with epoxy countertops.
Casey finished the project with a matte surface, allowing the wood's character to remain visible while providing the protection and performance of an epoxy coating.
The finished bar provides:
The project illustrates how epoxy can serve purposes beyond new countertop construction. Restoring an existing surface can protect the underlying material, improve performance, and extend the life of a commercial asset.
A Practical Alternative to Replacement
For hotels, restaurants, bars, and other food-and-beverage businesses, replacing a worn bar or countertop can involve significant material, labor, and operational disruption.

Resurfacing offers an alternative, allowing businesses to retain existing structures while upgrading durability, maintenance, and appearance.
The W Scottsdale project also demonstrates an opportunity for contractors beyond new construction and countertop installation: restoring and resurfacing worn commercial surfaces rather than replacing them.
