~ On the evening of February 18, 2026, the Idaho Falls Fire Department was called to respond to a structure fire at a small two-story duplex on Reynard Lane in Ammon. The incident was reported to dispatch at approximately 7:50 p.m.

According to the initial report, a gas oven had caught fire and smoke was filling the home. Fortunately, the family had safely evacuated before the firefighters arrived on the scene. Upon arrival, crews discovered that the fire had originated at the cooking stove and had extended into the wall behind it.

Thanks to their quick response and efficient actions, firefighters were able to contain the blaze and limit its spread to a small area around the stove. They also worked to ventilate the home and remove smoke, which had spread throughout the residence. However, this resulted in an estimated $20,000 in damage to the main floor.

Intermountain Gas Company also responded to assist by securing and shutting off the gas service while firefighters worked to extinguish the fire. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported for either occupants or firefighters.

In light of this incident, the Idaho Falls Fire Department would like to remind residents of important safety measures when cooking. These include using caution when handling heat sources and keeping flammable materials away from them. It is also crucial for every home to have working smoke alarms installed on every level.
