Kansas City Army Veteran and Registered Nurse Launches Independent Medicare Advisory Practice
TelAve News/10893852
After 13 years at the bedside, Jon Perkins brings clinical nursing experience and veteran insight to Medicare plan advising for Kansas City-area seniors turning 65.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - TelAve -- Jon Perkins spent more than a decade as a registered nurse in some of the most demanding clinical settings in the Kansas City area — neurology units, surgical floors, hospice care, and the Kansas City VA Medical Center. He also survived Hodgkin's lymphoma at age 19. And he served eight years in the U.S. Army.
None of that background is typical for a Medicare insurance advisor. Perkins is counting on that.
This January, Perkins launched an independent Medicare advisory practice affiliated with Senior Benefit Services in Blue Springs, Missouri, serving the Kansas City bi-state metro area in Missouri and Kansas. His practice focuses on helping residents turning 65 make informed decisions about Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, and Part D prescription drug coverage, at no cost to the client.

Thirteen years at the bedside gave Perkins a front-row view of what happens when patients are uninsured or underinsured. He watched coverage gaps delay diagnoses, drive patients toward less effective treatment options, and create financial crises that compounded already difficult medical situations.
"The connection between insurance coverage and health outcomes is direct and it is real," Perkins said. "I want to do everything possible to make sure beneficiaries have the exact right plan for their financial situation and their healthcare needs. The wrong plan isn't just a financial problem, it affects the care people actually receive."
The decision hit closer to home when his own mother turned 65. Perkins watched her navigate Medicare enrollment without any guidance, overwhelmed by the options and unaware that she could have met with an independent insurance advisor at no cost.
"She had no idea that kind of help was available and free," Perkins said. "Most people turning 65 don't know an independent agent can walk them through every option, compare plans across multiple carriers, and never charge them a dime."

As a licensed independent advisor, Perkins represents multiple carriers and is not tied to any single insurance company. His practice serves clients throughout the Kansas City metro area including Blue Springs, Independence, Overland Park, and surrounding communities in Missouri and Kansas.
Perkins also focuses on helping veterans navigate the intersection of VA healthcare benefits and Medicare — one of the most misunderstood topics he encounters.
"A lot of veterans assume their VA coverage means they can skip Medicare enrollment," Perkins said. "That assumption can cost thousands of dollars in permanent penalties. I've been through the VA system myself. I know how to have that conversation."
Free consultations are available by phone, video, or in person. More information is available at https://jonperkinsmedicare.com or by calling 816-291-3655.
