Long Beach: Community Invited to Summer Park Celebration at Marina Vista Park
TelAve News/10903365
Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - After years of planning and construction, the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) is pleased to announce the reopening of a portion of Marina Vista Park. The park had been closed to support the Colorado Lagoon Open Channel Project, but now community members are invited to celebrate its return at a Summer Park Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event, organized in collaboration with the Third District Council Office, aims to bring together friends and neighbors for a day of fun in the sun at Marina Vista Park located on Colorado Street and Marina Drive. Attendees can look forward to recreational games, a bounce house, face painting, information booths and complimentary snacks (while supplies last). This is also an opportunity for community members to experience the improvements made to the park firsthand.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his excitement for this milestone in the Colorado Lagoon Open Channel Project stating, "The project has been many years in the making and we are thrilled to commemorate this occasion with the reopening of Marina Vista Park." The project is an important part of the city's ongoing efforts to restore natural habitat, improve water quality and enhance public spaces.

Third District Councilmember Kristina Duggan also shared her enthusiasm for welcoming back community members to this section of Marina Vista Park. "I look forward to seeing our community on the 15th as we celebrate this moment," she said.
The closure of this portion of Marina Vista Park was necessary during the excavation and construction of the open channel. The park played a crucial role by providing suitable fill material for placement in the lagoon to support new habitat creation while also receiving fill material generated by the open channel excavation. As part of this effort, improvements were made including releveled fields with new irrigation systems and new amenities such as dugouts, field backdrops and outdoor fitness equipment.
More information about the Colorado Lagoon Open Channel Project can be found on the project webpage at longbeach.gov/coloradolagoonproject. The City of Long Beach encourages community members to explore their full lineup of parks, facilities, programs and services available at LBParks.org.
