Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) has recently announced the launch of their newly expanded Health and Human Services Fund (HHS Fund). This community-focused initiative aims to provide direct support to community members and local nonprofits in Long Beach.

Under the leadership of Mayor Rex Richardson, the HHS Fund has been expanded to include a fundraising campaign and a new mini grant program. These additions will further support public health services across the city and empower collective action among its residents.

Mayor Richardson expressed his belief in the strength of Long Beach's people, stating that "the HHS fund builds upon that strength by empowering collective action." He believes that these new initiatives will not only expand the reach of public health services but also support community members in building a healthier and more resilient Long Beach.

The HHS Fund is a donation-based effort that aims to help people in Long Beach access essential resources. It also focuses on strengthening the public health workforce by providing professional development opportunities for Health Department staff. Additionally, grants will be offered to local nonprofit organizations delivering health and human services.

To raise awareness and encourage public support, the Health Department is launching the Together for a Healthier Long Beach campaign this month. This campaign will highlight stories of individuals who have been served by the Health Department, showcasing how the supplemental support from the HHS Fund can continue to impact communities in Long Beach. These stories will be shared on social media and on the Health Department's website, with plans for future iterations of the campaign.

According to Health Department Director Alison King, "the HHS Fund brings resources directly to people and programs with the greatest need." She believes that by working together, they can build a healthier and more equitable city.

Managed by the Long Beach Community Foundation, tax-deductible donations are accepted for three initiatives under the HHS Fund. These include direct client support of up to $1,000 for urgent needs, workforce enhancements of up to $1,000 for Health Department staff, and mini grants of up to $5,000 for local nonprofit organizations.

These initiatives work together to provide responsive and people-centered support by removing barriers and equipping both the community and public health staff with necessary resources. Community members are also encouraged to support the campaign by sharing stories and messages on social media. Donations and community engagement will continue until 2026.
