During the 2026 event, attendees will experience a comprehensive, engaging, and high-quality program focused on the most effective ways to serve students with disabilities while maintaining compliance with special education and disability laws.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - TelAve -- LRP's National Institute on Legal Issues of Educating Individuals with Disabilities®, the leading source for compliance strategies, best practices, and case updates impacting special education programs, announced today the comprehensive agenda for the 2026 event taking place April 26 - 29 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, La.

The extensive program includes over 40 sessions presented by leading special education experts who will deliver top-notch compliance and implementation strategies across six topic-focused tracks: Administration, Behavior, IDEA, Section 504, Attorney Ethics, and Special Ed Connection℠ Users Group. The agenda also includes three enlightening General Sessions:
  • A Year in Review 2025 (and a Look Ahead): Attorney Jan Tomsky will present the always popular, fast-paced review of the top recent legal cases and share her expert insights on significant cases from 2025, as well as her predictions for litigation trends for the coming year.
  • Rolling With the Changes: A Federal Update on What Was, What Is, and What May Be: Attorney Julia Martin will cover the latest trends in policy, advocacy, and enforcement of special education laws and discuss likely next steps for decision-makers in Washington, what it all means for school districts, and how to prepare staff for compliance in response to all the changes.
  • The Life-Changing Power of Inclusion in Education: Empowering Educators With Confidence & Optimism: Mickey Rowe, an acclaimed author, actor, and speaker, will share his story of growing up with autism and pushing beyond the restrictions of a special education classroom to shine on the stage. He will also discuss how thinking with an accessibility mindset and equipping educators with tools to support neurodivergent learners and learners with disabilities can help all students succeed.

"Special education is changing. Recent developments, from the Supreme Court's ruling on the deliberate indifference standard for damages, to the closing of OCR offices, to the increased use of AI, are all on this year's agenda along with sessions on reoccurring foundational requirements everyone needs to know," said Julie J. Kline, Esq., Vice President of Education, LRP Media Group and Conference Chair. "Institute attendees can mix and match sessions and program tracks depending on their interests and favorite presenters."
