Male In Custody After North Spokane Drive By Shooting

~ Spokane Police responded to a reported drive-by shooting on February 18, 2026 at approximately 4 p.m. in the area of W. Maxwell Ave and N. Howard St. According to one witness, a male suspect was seen firing a handgun from a black pickup truck.

As officers arrived at the scene, additional calls came in reporting the same suspect displaying a firearm in a threatening manner at various locations in west Spokane. One specific location was given as Ash and Maxwell.

After locating the truck in the downtown area, officers attempted to stop it once it was safe to do so. However, the male suspect refused to cooperate and fled from police. Due to concerns for public safety, officers initiated a brief pursuit.

The Spokane Regional Air Support Unit (SRASU) was called in to assist SPD in monitoring the suspect's movements from above. For the safety of the public, officers backed away from the suspect while SRASU continued to track him.

The suspect continued driving recklessly and eventually crashed into a SPD patrol vehicle near Whistalks and Government Way. Despite this collision, he continued driving before finally crashing his vehicle a short distance away. SRASU maintained visual contact with the suspect's vehicle until he fled on foot and was quickly apprehended by officers.

The suspect has been identified as 48-year-old Carl W. Lindsey and has been arrested for Attempt to Elude, Felony Hit and Run, and Resisting Arrest. He is currently being held at Spokane County Jail pending further charges.

Officers have seized Lindsey's vehicle pending a search warrant and additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

Images of both the damaged SPD patrol vehicle and Lindsey's damaged vehicle have been released by authorities as part of their ongoing investigation into this incident.
