CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson announced today that former Vice President Kamala Harris will be delivering the keynote address at the Martin Luther King Jr. Interfaith Breakfast in Chicago. The annual event brings together faith communities from across the city to honor Dr. King's legacy of justice, unity, and service.

In a statement, Mayor Johnson expressed his gratitude to Vice President Harris for choosing to come to Chicago and honor Dr. King's legacy in the city. He acknowledged that she could have been anywhere else, but her decision to come to Chicago and recognize the work being done to defend democracy is greatly appreciated by the people of Chicago.

Mayor Johnson also highlighted Vice President Harris' role as a trailblazer and staunch defender of the freedoms and rights of everyday Americans. He expressed his excitement for a historic MLK Interfaith Breakfast this year with Vice President Harris as the keynote speaker.

The MLK Interfaith Breakfast was first organized more than 40 years ago by Chicago's first Black mayor, Harold Washington. The event honors community leaders for their contributions to the city and their efforts in continuing Dr. King's legacy. This year's theme is "Defending Our Democracy, Protecting Our Rights."

The event has reached its capacity and cannot accommodate additional guests. However, it will be live-streamed on the Mayor's channels for those who are unable to attend in person.
