Mayor Wu and B.A.A Announce Recipients of the Fastest Bostonian Awards at the 130th Boston Marathon

~ Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) have announced the recipients of the Fastest Bostonians Awards, recognizing four Boston residents for their impressive finish times at the 130th Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America. The awards were presented during a celebration at City Hall, where the fastest man in the wheelchair division and the fastest man, woman, and non-binary runners were honored for their outstanding performances.

Among the recipients was Michael Schmidt, an East Boston resident who finished the race in an impressive time of 2:22:32. Schmidt is also a track and field and cross country coach at Brandeis University. Tara Lyons, a North End resident who works full-time in benefit consulting, finished with a time of 2:48:41. Danielle Bishop, an Allston resident who works as an Account Specialist for New Balance, completed the marathon in 3:21:28. Delmace Mayo, a Jamaica Plain resident who competed in the wheelchair division of the marathon, finished with a time of 1:51:11. Unfortunately, there were no women from Boston competing in this year's wheelchair division.

In a statement, Mayor Michelle Wu expressed her pride in all those who participated in this year's Boston Marathon and represented their communities. She congratulated Schmidt, Lyons, Bishop, and Mayo for earning this year's Fastest Bostonian honors and praised them for showcasing true "Boston grit" to the world. She also thanked B.A.A. for their partnership in continuing this tradition.

Jack Fleming, President and CEO of B.A.A., also commended all those who participated in this year's marathon from Massachusetts and specifically highlighted those from the City of Boston community. He noted that these athletes truly shined on race day whether they were aiming for a personal best or running to raise awareness for charity partners.

The Boston Marathon is known as the world's oldest annual marathon and this year marked the fourth year that Boston residents with the fastest finish times received a commemorative glass bowl engraved with the phrase "Fastest Bostonian." The B.A.A. looks forward to celebrating these hometown athletes soon and continuing this legacy in future marathons.
