Michigan Drivers Facing DUI License Consequences May Have a Path to Restoration
TelAve News/10895215
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - TelAve -- Drivers in Michigan who are convicted of driving under the influence often worry about how the offense will affect their ability to legally drive. Depending on the circumstances, a DUI conviction can result in license suspension, restricted driving privileges, or even a full license revocation.
For a first-offense Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) conviction, drivers may face a 30-day license suspension followed by 150 days of restricted driving privileges. Higher penalties apply in cases involving a high blood alcohol content of 0.17 or greater, which can lead to 45 days of suspension and 320 days of restricted driving with an ignition interlock device.
However, drivers with multiple DUI convictions face much more serious consequences. Michigan law requires the automatic revocation of a driver's license for individuals with two DUI convictions within seven years or three within ten years. Unlike a suspension, a revoked license does not automatically return after a set period.

Instead, drivers must pursue driver's license restoration in Michigan (https://www.milicenselawyer.com/learn/more/will-i-lose-my-license-after-a-dui-drivers-license-restoration-mi) through a formal process with the Michigan Secretary of State's Administrative Hearings Section. Applicants must demonstrate that any alcohol or substance abuse issues are under control and that they're committed to maintaining sobriety.
Attorney Dan Geherin works with Michigan drivers navigating the driver's license restoration process, helping them prepare documentation and present evidence necessary to pursue the return of their driving privileges.
Drivers seeking more information about their eligibility for driver's license restoration in Michigan can schedule a consultation (https://www.milicenselawyer.com/contact) to discuss their situation and learn about the steps required to regain legal driving privileges.
