Naperville: Cook County Convicted Felon Charged with Alleged Illegal Possession of Four Loaded Firearms
TelAve News/10864343
~ Naperville, IL- On Tuesday, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres held a joint press conference to announce that Judge Christine Cody has granted the State's motion to detain Marcus Carroll, a 30-year-old convicted felon from Cook County. Carroll is facing charges of illegally possessing multiple loaded firearms.
According to the press release, on May 24, 2025, at approximately 2:03 a.m., Naperville police officers observed a parked vehicle with a handgun on the floorboard behind the front passenger seat. The handgun was later identified as a Glock 43 9mm with a fifty-round drum magazine. The officers initiated a traffic stop after witnessing the vehicle commit multiple traffic offenses. Carroll was allegedly driving the vehicle at the time.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found the Glock 43 under the driver's seat, loaded and easily accessible. They also discovered a partially zipped backpack on the back driver's side seat containing three more loaded firearms: a Glock 23 .40 caliber with a switch in the rear rendering it fully automatic, a Springfield Hellcat 9mm in a mesh pocket, and a Glock 19 9mm in another pouch. All four weapons were loaded with one round in the chamber.

Carroll was taken into custody at that time and appeared at First Appearance Court last weekend. He is facing one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Repeat Felony Offender (Class X Felony) and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 2).
State's Attorney Berlin expressed his concern for public safety and commended the Naperville Police Department for their vigilant work in removing dangerous weapons from their streets. He also thanked Assistant State's Attorneys Heather Misura and Anna Derkacz for their efforts in securing charges against Carroll.
Chief Arres also praised the officers involved for their bravery and dedication in addressing individuals who pose a serious threat to public safety. He also extended his appreciation to State's Attorney Berlin and his office for their partnership and hard work on this case.
Carroll's next court appearance is scheduled for June 23, 2025, in front of Judge Ann Celine O'Hallaren Walsh. However, it is important to note that the complaint against Carroll only contains charges and does not prove his guilt. He is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
This incident serves as a reminder to the public that possessing firearms illegally is a serious offense. The authorities urge anyone with information about illegal possession of firearms to come forward and report it. Together, we can help keep our communities safe.
