Naperville: Remember to 'Click It or Ticket' This Thanksgiving
TelAve News/10847158
~ Naperville Police Department, in collaboration with the Illinois State Police and other local law enforcement agencies, is taking measures to ensure the safety of holiday travelers this Thanksgiving. From November 22nd to December 2nd, they will be implementing the "Click It or Ticket" and "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaigns.
According to Naperville Police Sergeant Derek Zook, the increase in vehicles on the road during Thanksgiving poses a higher risk for accidents. He urges all drivers to buckle up and make sure children are properly secured in a safe seat. By doing so, they can contribute to a safe and joyful holiday for everyone.
The main focus of these campaigns is to promote safety education, enforce strong laws, and emphasize law enforcement's commitment to saving lives. The ultimate goal is to reduce motor vehicle crashes, injuries, and fatalities. Wearing a seat belt is the most effective way to protect oneself in case of an accident. However, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), only 92.4% of people in the state use seat belts regularly, leaving room for improvement.

For those who plan on consuming alcohol or other impairing substances during their Thanksgiving celebrations, there are important reminders from law enforcement:
- Plan for a sober ride home before going out.
- Utilize taxi services, rideshare apps, public transportation or ask a family member for a safe ride home.
- If you witness a drunk driver on the road, pull over safely and call 911.
- Ensure that everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt as it is the best defense against an impaired driver.
This Thanksgiving enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT. The collaboration between law enforcement agencies aims to keep roads safe during this busy holiday season. So remember to buckle up and drive sober this Thanksgiving for a happy and safe celebration with loved ones.
