Naperville Seeks Community Input to Update Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan
TelAve News/10878385
~ Naperville, IL - The City of Naperville is taking steps to improve its Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan in order to create a safer and more accessible network for walkers and cyclists of all ages and abilities. The plan, which was last updated in 1997, will be revamped through a collaboration between the Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) Business Group and A. Epstein and Sons International, Inc.
This initiative aligns with Naperville's 2027: Investing in Our Community Priorities Plan, which prioritizes improved mobility, safety, and sustainability. The updated Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan will identify projects to enhance existing infrastructure for biking and walking, as well as create new routes to address any gaps in the network.
To ensure that the plan reflects the needs of the community, the city is inviting residents to share their ideas through various platforms. Jennifer Louden, TED director, emphasized the importance of community input in this process. "Our goal is to give people the tools and opportunities to share input based on their experience," she stated.

One way for residents to provide feedback is through an online interactive map where they can pin locations, suggest routes, and leave comments. This map will be available on the Bike and Pedestrian Plan webpage until December 31st. Another opportunity for input is at upcoming pop-up events such as Downtown Naperville's Halloween Hop on October 26th. Additional event dates and locations will be posted on the webpage.
In addition to these methods, a public open house will be held in spring 2026 to gather further feedback on proposed recommendations. The final plan is expected to be presented to the City Council in fall 2026 for consideration.
Recent community surveys have shown an increase in satisfaction with biking and walking in Naperville. In fact, resident satisfaction with ease of traveling by bicycle has risen from 51% in 2016 to 63% in 2023, while satisfaction with ease of walking has increased from 68% to 81% during the same time period. City leaders hope that the updated plan will continue this positive trend and further improve walkability and bikeability in Naperville.
