~ In the early hours of Monday, Nov. 17, a fire broke out on the back deck of a home in Naperville's 700 block of Kaiser Court. The Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call at 1:09 a.m. reporting the incident.

According to the caller, all occupants had safely evacuated and one of the homeowners was attempting to put out the fire with a garden hose. In response, a general alarm was dispatched, sending 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel to the scene.

After approximately 20 minutes, at 1:35 a.m., the fire was declared under control and extinguished. Fire personnel remained on site to ensure there were no remaining hot spots.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported among residents, pets or firefighters. However, due to extensive damage estimated at over $50,000, Naperville's Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) Department has deemed the building uninhabitable. The blaze displaced two adults and two children from their home.

Upon investigation, it was determined that improper disposal of charcoal coals caused the fire. The Naperville Fire Department received assistance from both Naperville Police Department and TED Department at the scene.

This incident serves as a reminder for proper disposal of flammable materials and highlights the importance of quick response from emergency services in preventing further damage or injuries during such incidents.
