Nashville Artist C.M. James Announces Cross-Genre Album "Don't Label Me: I Am A Label. What's A Genre?"

Independent Nashville label C.M. Jaye Music introduces the upcoming album "Don't Label Me," a storytelling-driven project by C.M. James blending hip-hop, country and soul while continuing the creative legacy of Nashville singer-songwriter Larysa Jaye.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - TelAve -- Independent artist and entrepreneur C.M. James has announced the upcoming release of his new album, "Don't Label Me: I Am A Label. What's A Genre?", a cross-genre project arriving through the independent Nashville record label C.M. Jaye Music.
The album represents a creative statement built around storytelling, musical diversity and the idea that modern artists should not be confined to a single category. Blending elements of hip-hop, country, soul and narrative-driven songwriting, the project reflects James' belief that music should be experienced as a story rather than simply defined by genre labels.
The album's concept isn't rooted in one predefined style, the album explores multiple musical influences while connecting them through a consistent storytelling approach.

"The idea behind 'Don't Label Me' is simple," James said. "Artists today create across different sounds and inspirations. Saying 'I am a label' isn't arrogance, it's self-awareness. The only label that really fits is a little bit of everything."
The project will be released through C.M. Jaye Music, the independent label founded by James that continues the musical vision connected to the legacy of Nashville singer-songwriter Larysa Jaye. Jaye, who became known in Nashville for her soulful songwriting and blend of country, blues and soul influences, passed away in December 2024. Her influence remains a key inspiration behind the continued growth of the label and the creative projects now emerging from it.
In 2025, the label released Jaye's first posthumous single, "No Other Face," honoring her work and introducing her music to new listeners across Nashville and the broader independent music community. The release helped establish the foundation for the label's future projects and creative direction.
With "Don't Label Me," James now steps forward with his own musical release while continuing the mission of supporting storytelling-driven music that crosses traditional genre boundaries.

The album rollout will begin with the release of the single "Hey Karla," a track that captures the playful storytelling style present throughout the project. The song blends Southern influences with modern production and serves as an introduction to the broader creative direction behind the album.
Beyond the music itself, James approaches the album as part of a larger storytelling ecosystem that connects his work as an author, producer and creative entrepreneur. Through his platform C.M. James Writes, he has developed multiple storytelling projects that explore narrative across books, audio experiences and now music.
For James, the album represents both a personal milestone and a continuation of the creative path he and his sister shared.
"Music was always part of growing up," James said. "Even though Larysa isn't here physically, her influence continues to guide what we're building through C.M. Jaye Music."
The upcoming album "Don't Label Me: I Am A Label. What's A Genre?" is scheduled for release on April 10 and will introduce listeners to a project built around the idea that creativity should never be confined to a single label.
