New Film The Country They Call Life: a Poetic Romance and Modern Fable from BayView Entertainment

Lyrical tone poem embraces magical realism to inspire hope and a calming sense of peace in the forlorn
POMPTON PLAINS, N.J. - TelAve -- Film Distributor BayView Entertainment announces the release of The Country They Call Life, an independent drama that envelopes its characters in the beauty of worldly nature and the otherworldly possibilities beyond as they forge a healing relationship. It is scheduled to appear on finer streaming services beginning July 28th, 2026.
Writer-director H.R. Kean crafts a disarming tale of two souls unexpectedly entwined by fate, as a spirit stuck in limbo must choose between life and death, and her only hope for help is a suicidal man.
Adrift in a forested limbo after a fatal crash, Autumn saves Daniel, a grieving hiker, creating an unexplainable bond that allows him to see her. When she learns he's searching for a lake, she offers to guide him, desperate to hold onto her fragile connection to the living.
Pushing deeper into the woods, Autumn challenges Daniel to confront his pain, while he reminds her of the beauty and heartbreak of being human. When her true nature is revealed, they must face their darkest fears—or risk losing the one connection that could bring them both back to life.

Cara Mitsuko stars as Autumn in her most layered role yet. Mitsuko, whose career has included notable appearances in Breaking Bad, Grey's Anatomy, NCI: New Orleans, and recurring guest role and Season 2 romantic interest in the highly popular and successful The Man in the High Castle, also serves as Executive Producer on the film.
As Daniel, Jeremy Roberts, whose previous feature film was acclaimed director Damien Chazelle's provocative Babylon, provides a gritty realism to juxtapose Mitsuko's ethereal Autumn.
With parents who were choir conductors and opera directors, H.R. Kean grew up backstage in theaters and rehearsal halls. She began performing at age three but ultimately found her voice in directing, committing to it full-time at 28.
Now, after honing her craft by directing short films, she has directed her first feature-length movie, which continues her exploration of deeply human stories that are rooted in beauty, honesty, and the complicated ways we learn to live again.
Kean notes that her characters "move through a landscape that is both breathtaking and haunted, where nature becomes an active presence and silence speaks louder than dialogue. The film asks us to slow down, to listen, to feel. To surrender to a story that unfolds like a path forward."
"When we saw H.R.'s film, we were deeply moved," said BayView Entertainment President Peter Castro
