WORCESTER, Mass. - March 7, 2019 - TelAve -- It's one thing to hear about accidents on TV. In isolation, it's hard to get a sense of just how common accidents really are. It's another thing to visually see the location of every single accident in your city on a map. The first step to reducing accidents is understanding where they are occurring and why.

The law firm of Peter Ventura just released its annual Worcester accident map. The firm analyzed and mapped all 5,759 accidents to occur in Worcester in 2016. When you're able to look at the data visually, it becomes very easy to spot where accidents are occurring with frequency.

The firm has compiled a list of the top 10 most dangerous intersections in the city. At the top of the list is the intersection of Southbridge St and Hammond St, with 18 accidents in 2016. The intersection of Chandler St and Mason St followed closely behind with 15 accidents. The third most dangerous intersection was the intersection of Cambridge Street and McKeon Road with a total of 14 accidents. Certain streets carry a higher risk of accidents than others. Both Belmont Street and Park Avenue were included on the most dangerous intersections list more than once. Park Avenue actually hold three spots on the most dangerous intersections list. I-290 and I-190 have historically been troublesome. In 2016, I-290 was home to over 250 accidents in 2016, which resulted in 76 injuries. Another 52 accidents occurred along I-190, resulting in 14 injuries.
