Ocean's Harbor House Celebrates H. Hovnanian Family Foundation's Legacy of Support
TelAve News/10904494
TOMS RIVER, N.J. - TelAve -- Ocean's Harbor House is celebrating the continued generosity and longstanding support of the H. Hovnanian Family Foundation, whose latest contribution will help fund critical renovations to SHORE House, the organization's long-term transitional living program for young people ages 16 to 21 who are homeless, facing imminent homelessness or experiencing crisis. The Foundation's support will help Ocean's Harbor House make meaningful improvements to the SHORE House kitchen and three bathrooms, creating a safer, healthier and more welcoming residential environment for the young people who call the house home. Planned renovations include a complete kitchen renovation, upgraded commercial-grade appliances, new flooring and cabinetry, mold remediation, and improvements to three bathrooms, including accessibility enhancements to the first-floor bathroom.
Founded in 2004, SHORE House, which stands for Supportive Housing Opportunities through Restoration and Encouragement, is a 12-bed transitional living program that provides young people with far more than a place to stay. Residents may remain in the program for up to two years while receiving support designed to help them build independence through education, employment preparation, life skills, counseling and community connection.
Over more than two decades, SHORE House has sheltered and supported more than 650 young people from Ocean and Monmouth counties and surrounding communities. After years of continuous use, the residence is now in need of significant restoration to ensure that it continues to provide a safe and supportive environment for future generations of young people.

"We value the legacy and history of support of Hirair and Anna Hovnanian and the Family Foundation over our lifetime of 40 years," said Chief Operating Officer Donna Carlson. "Having the H. Hovnanian Family Foundation as an Architect Partner and legacy family strengthens our foundation as we continue to provide essential services for the young men and women who grace our door and become the parents, taxpayers, workforce, teachers, healthcare and social workers of our community's future." The Hovnanian family's relationship with Ocean's Harbor House reaches back decades, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening the community and supporting vulnerable young people. Their continued generosity has helped Ocean's Harbor House advance its mission of providing housing, stability and essential services to young people throughout the region.
"On behalf of our residents, our staff, and our 22-year-old transitional living program, our SHORE House, we thank the H. Hovnanian Family Foundation from the bottom of our hearts," said Dawn Samaritano, Chief Financial Officer of Ocean's Harbor House. "We will now be able to provide a truly environmentally and aesthetically healthy living space for our 16- to 21-year-old young people whose lives are lifted and literally saved by our house and our programs."
The SHORE House renovation comes at a time when Ocean's Harbor House continues to respond to the growing needs of young people experiencing housing instability. In addition to transitional housing, the organization is expanding services through street outreach, day services and aftercare programs designed to connect young people with immediate assistance, counseling, education and continued support.
