Residents join Habitat to dedicate two affordable homes for local families
FORT MYERS, Fla. - TelAve -- Residents of Pelican Landing and The Colony have successfully raised over $600,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties, marking one of the communities' most successful campaigns to date in support of the organization's mission.
Since 2002, this gated community has partnered with Habitat through a resident-led committee that organizes an annual fundraising campaign among neighbors, supporting Habitat through donations and volunteer work on construction sites. This year, Habitat staff, volunteers and residents gathered for two home dedications, celebrating the completion of the 32nd and 33rd homes built and funded by the generosity of Pelican Landing and The Colony residents.
"The continued generosity of Pelican Landing and The Colony has a direct and lasting impact on our ability to build affordable homes," said Rachel West, Habitat's director of donor development. "Thanks to their partnership, two local families can now experience the transformative benefits of affordable homeownership."

Before partnering with Habitat, both Amanda and Karla were burdened by high rent costs and living conditions that affected their families' quality of life and ability to grow. With support from residents of Pelican Landing and The Colony, both Habitat homeowners now have a stable, affordable place to call home.
Habitat for Humanity partners with private, gated communities to further its mission of building homes, communities and hope. For more information or to get involved, contact Habitat's Director of Donor Development at rachelw@habitat4humanity.org or call 239-652-1695.
