RAPID CITY, S.D. - TelAve -- Point-In-Time Homeless Count 2026 Events Announced Across Rapid City

Rapid City, SD — January 27, 2026
— Community organizations across Rapid City will conduct the annual Point-In-Time (PIT) Homeless Count during the week of January 27, 2026. The effort includes multiple survey locations, meals, and resource distribution events aimed at reaching individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

The Point-In-Time Count is a federally mandated initiative that helps communities better understand the scope of homelessness and secure critical funding for housing, outreach, and support services. Participation is voluntary, confidential, and requires no identification.

  • On-site PIT surveys
  • Distribution of personal care items including hats, gloves, and hygiene supplies
  • Community meal served at 11:00 a.m. by the Salvation Army

  • Cornerstone Rescue Mission

Trained staff and volunteers will be on-site at all locations to assist participants and ensure surveys are conducted respectfully and confidentially.

"The Point-In-Time Count ensures that people experiencing homelessness are seen, counted, and connected," said a local organizer. "Accurate data allows Rapid City to pursue funding and develop programs that reflect the real needs of our community."
