RadioMobile Announces Completion of 20-Vehicle Technology Upgrade for Butte County Fire Department
TelAve News/10899430
Automatic Vehicle Location Project Strengthens Emergency Response, Situational Awareness, and interoperability
SAN DIEGO - TelAve -- Butte County Fire Department has completed a 20-vehicle technology modernization project designed to strengthen emergency response capabilities, improve responder connectivity, and enhance operational effectiveness throughout Butte County.
"Technology is a critical component of modern emergency response," said Battalion Chief Keith Castillo of the Butte County Fire Department. "Our goal is to ensure personnel have the information and tools they need to make informed decisions, maintain situational awareness, and operate as efficiently as possible. This project strengthens those capabilities and keeps our operations moving in the right direction."
Funded through a voter-approved public safety measure, the project reflects the community's continued investment in ensuring first responders have access to reliable, mission-critical technology when responding to emergencies across one of California's most diverse and challenging response environments.
The deployment equips Butte County Fire (aka CAL FIRE Schedule A) emergency response vehicles with RadioMobile's integrated mobile technology platform, enhancing situational awareness, communications reliability, and operational effectiveness in the field.
The system includes enterprise-grade mobile networking and vehicle systems designed specifically for public safety operations. Each vehicle is equipped with a Cradlepoint 5G/LTE router to provide secure, resilient connectivity between personnel, dispatch centers, and critical operational resources. The installation also incorporates RadioMobile's AVL Connectivity Platform (ACP) that includes intelligent vehicle power management technology designed to protect vehicle batteries while ensuring mission-critical equipment remains available when needed. The ACP also provides a pre-assembled centralized location for integrating power, antenna, and network connections in a single location, allowing for much shorter installation timelines.

Recognizing the financial realities faced by public safety agencies, the project was designed with future expansion in mind. Vehicle layouts, wiring infrastructure, and connectivity architecture were planned to accommodate future technologies, including satellite communications capabilities such as Starlink, allowing the department to leverage additional funding opportunities as they become available without requiring significant redesign or reinstallation of vehicle systems.
This scalable approach delivers immediate operational benefits while establishing a foundation for future enhancements, enabling Butte County Fire Department to align technology investments with available funding while maintaining a long-term vision for responder connectivity, resiliency, and situational awareness.
For Butte County, investments in emergency response technology carry particular significance. Over the past decade, the county has faced some of California's most significant emergencies, including the 2017 Oroville Dam spillway crisis, which prompted the evacuation of nearly 200,000 residents, and the 2018 Camp Fire, which devastated Paradise and surrounding communities. These events underscored the critical importance of reliable communications, real-time information sharing, and coordinated emergency response capabilities during rapidly evolving incidents.
The upgraded vehicles support both daily emergency response operations and large-scale incidents requiring mutual aid coordination. By providing responders with improved access to operational information and communications resources, the platform helps personnel remain connected and informed regardless of incident type or location.
"We appreciate the opportunity to work alongside Battalion Chief Castillo and the Butte County team on this important project," said Jim Moore, CEO for RadioMobile. "This project reflects a thoughtful approach to public safety technology—one that delivers value today while creating opportunities for future growth as funding becomes available. We are proud to support Butte County's commitment to providing its personnel with the tools they need to serve their communities safely and effectively."
