Residents Invited to Celebrate Reopenings of Two Juneau Parks in August

The ribbon ~ Juneau, Alaska - The City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation department is excited to announce the reopening of two popular parks in the community. Sigoowu Ye Park in Lemon Creek and Thunder Mountain Bike Park in the Mendenhall Valley have recently undergone upgrades and will be celebrating with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and BBQ for the community.

On Saturday, August 29, from 12 to 2 p.m., residents are invited to join in the festivities at Sigoowu Ye Park located at 5921 Pine Street in Lemon Creek. The event will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a BBQ for all attendees.

The grand opening and bike-train ribbon-cutting for Thunder Mountain Bike Park will take place on Sunday, August 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parking is available at Miller Fields near Glacier Valley School, with directional signage posted in the area. To reach the event, participants can start at the end of Jennifer Dr. and follow the Under Thunder trail up to the Thunder Mt. Uptrack. From there, they can follow the Uptrack to the designated gravel area near the water reservoir where the event will be held.

Thanks to collaboration between Juneau Mountain Bike Alliance and Trail Mix Inc., along with dedicated professionals and volunteers, new trails have been added and existing ones have been rehabilitated at both parks. During the event, all trails will be open for riding with helmets required for safety. For those without bikes, Cycle Alaska will have bikes available to try out and will also be giving away helmets for kids.
