RISO Announces the Launch of the MICRXpress for sale in the USA, Canada Market
TelAve News/10903988
WOBURN, Mass. - TelAve -- RISO, Inc. is proud to announce that the RISO MICRXpress, a combination full-color inkjet/MICR printing solution, will be available for sale in the North American market beginning October 1, 2026. Unlike other MICR printers, which are limited in their functionality to printing only in MICR ink, the RISO MICRXpress retains the ability to print full color simplex and duplex documents as per a ComColor GL cut sheet inkjet production printer, at speeds of up to 160 PPM, with the added benefit of printing lines of MICR for check printing purposes and other MICR applications.
The RISO MICRXpress uses an Alphastream controller from TAG to strip out the information to be printed on the MICR line, and routes that information to the MICR printer head for printing onto the substrate. Field testing shows good MICR strength, with test printing at 300 and 600 dpi. The estimated capacity for the MICR ink cartridges is around 140,000 pages. We feel that it will garner great interest from a number of sectors, such as the Insurance, Financial/Banking and Transactional markets, which are reliant on dedicated printers for those MICR-related applications.

The system is comprised of the proven technology of the RISO ComColor cut sheet inkjet print engine, and an additional conveyor and print head unit that can lay down one line of MICR print. An Alphastream processor processes the PDF file and strips the MICR line from the rest of the document, allowing the rest of the document to be printed with cost-effective oil-based inkjet ink and only the MICR elements of the check to be printed with MICR ink, increasing the ink yield of the MICR cartridge to approximately 140,000 prints. This allows check printing to become far more cost effective, and removes the need for specialty check substrates, as ordinary perforated white paper can be used instead.
After premiering the MICRXpress at PRINTING UNITED 2025 to great industry interest, RISO moved forward into beta and field testing. Presale orders will be possible at this year's PRINTING UNITED 2026 show in Las Vegas, NV, where the system will be on display for real-time demonstrations. More information can be seen on this system at us.riso.com/resources/events/printing-united/.
