(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia College is taking a proactive approach to addressing the opioid crisis by hosting a SAVE-A-LIFE event on Thursday, April 9. The event, which will take place from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Brouder Science Center in Bixby Auditorium, aims to educate and distribute Naloxone (also known as Narcan®) to members of the community.

In partnership with the Boone County Overdose Response Coalition and Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services, this program will provide information and training on how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to use and access naloxone. The event is open to the public and no registration is necessary.

Following the formal presentation, Public Health and Human Services staff will be available to provide additional information and brief training for those who are unable to attend. This includes both formal training as well as informal conversations on how individuals can help prevent overdose deaths from painkillers like fentanyl through the use of naloxone nasal spray.

SAVE-A-LIFE events are part of a monthly series that aim to educate communities on how they can help prevent opioid overdose deaths through the use of naloxone nasal spray. Columbia College hopes that by providing this education and access to naloxone, they can make a positive impact in addressing the ongoing opioid crisis.
