Songs, Stories, and Starlight: Carlini Classics Brings Rabindranath Tagore Back to the World

Essential Works from the Nobel Laureate Who Transformed World Literature

NEW YORK - TelAve -- Few writers moved as freely between poetry, fiction, drama, music, and spiritual reflection as Rabindranath Tagore, whose work helped carry Bengali literature onto the world stage while reshaping modern Indian writing from within. Carlini Classics now presents a new series of editions devoted to Tagore, featuring Gitanjali ("Song Offering"), The Post Office, The Hungry Stones and Other Stories, The King of the Dark Chamber, and Mashi and Other Stories.

Born in Calcutta in 1861, Tagore was a poet, playwright, short-story writer, composer, essayist, painter, and educator whose work transformed Bengali literature. In 1913, he became the first non-European Nobel laureate in Literature, recognized for the "profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse" of Gitanjali.

The five titles showcase his range: Gitanjali offers lyric poems of devotion and wonder; The Post Office transforms a child's confinement into a meditation on freedom; The King of the Dark Chamber explores love and faith through symbolic drama; The Hungry Stones and Mashi reveal his gifts as a storyteller of atmosphere and psychological depth.

Cover design for the series was created by Jenny Lim, a recent California State University, East Bay graduate. Her designs pair elegant serif typography with South Asian miniature imagery in muted mauves, blues, greens, and gold — a look that feels both classical and contemporary.

"Tagore wrote as if no boundary between forms was final," said Charles Carlini, founder of Casa Carlini. "These editions are meant to bring that range back into view."

The Rabindranath Tagore series is available now through Casa Carlini, major booksellers, and Amazon.
