TelAve News/10592520
Dover Quartet and Escher String Quartet to perform at the opening of Spivey Hall's concert season on September 29th
ATLANTA - TelAve -- Clayton State University's Spivey Hall will kick off its 29th Season of Spivey Series concerts on September 29, 2019 with a high energy performance of Mendelssohn's brilliant Octet by the Dover Quartet and Escher String Quartet.
The celebration begins at 2:00pm with a pre-concert talk led by Clayton State University's Director of Vocal Activities and Opera, Dr. Kurt-Alexander Zeller. This educational preface is designed to enhance patrons' musical knowledge and listening experiences. A full listing of Season 29 performances, including artist information, can be found on the Spivey Hall ticketing page: clayton.edu/spiveyhall/Concerts.
The celebration centerpiece is the 3:00pm concert featuring the Escher String Quartet in Haydn's high-spirited Quartet in G major, Op. 77 No. 1, the Dover Quartet in Hindemith's kaleidoscopic Quartet No. 3 in C major, Op. 22, and the two quartets joining forces for Mendelssohn's Octet for Strings in E-flat major, Op. 20 – a chamber-music masterpiece he composed at age 16.

The Season Opening Celebration concert is made possible with the generous support of Spivey Hall Friends Concert Sponsors Ben F. & Elizabeth H. Hendricks and Bob & Linda Schnapper.
Ticket holders are invited to extend their season-opening celebration experience with a post-concert reception where they will enjoy light refreshments and conversation with the artists.
"The enduring beauty of great music is illuminated by the creativity of inspired composers, and enriched by the insights of outstanding performers like the Dover and Escher String quartets," stated Spivey Hall Executive and Artistic Director Sam C Dixon. "We look forward to these outstanding performers bringing the music to life for us in our season-opening celebration."
Spivey Hall's 2019-2020 season will feature 24 series performances (Strings, Piano, Organ, Vocal and Jazz), 6 special event performances and a host of educational opportunities for educators, supporters and music lovers alike. "Spivey Hall has 400 seats, so it's a mathematical miracle that it routinely books internationally renowned artists like violinist Joshua Bell and vocal ensemble Chanticleer," wrote Atlanta Magazine in their Best of Atlanta 2018: Arts & Culture edition. "An endowment is part of the equation, but it still wouldn't compute without Spivey Hall Executive and Artistic Director Sam C. Dixon, who has a knack for wooing top talent and scouting out tomorrow's stars."
