Spokane Police Respond to Midday Shooting on STA Bus

~ Spokane Police Officers responded to a reported shooting on an STA bus at Franklin Park on August 11th, 2026. According to Officer T. Leming, PIO, the incident occurred just after 12:00 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers quickly located four juveniles in the park who were believed to be involved in the shooting. Meanwhile, other officers gathered witness statements and evidence on the bus. It was reported that the involved subjects had gotten off the bus at Franklin Park while the bus driver continued further south and stopped at a safe distance.
One of the juveniles was found to have a gunshot wound to their arm and officers immediately provided medical aid until medics arrived. The injured juvenile was then transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

After reviewing video evidence of the incident, it was determined that the shooting was a result of unsafe handling of a firearm and not an intentional criminal act. Witnesses also confirmed that all four juveniles located by officers were involved and there were no outstanding suspects.
As officers continued their investigation, they discovered a backpack belonging to one of the juveniles. A search warrant was granted by a judge and two firearms were recovered from the backpack. One of these firearms had been previously reported stolen.
As a result of their findings, one juvenile has been arrested and booked for two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Degree as well as Rendering Criminal Assistance 2nd Degree. Further charges may be pending as the investigation into this case continues.
The Spokane Police Department has released photos of the bus involved in the incident for reference. The department urges anyone with additional information about this case to come forward and assist with their ongoing investigation.
