Spokane: SPD Traffic Unit Conducts Click It or Ticket Special Emphasis Patrol

~ Spokane Police Department's Traffic Unit conducted an emphasis patrol for Click It or Ticket on May 22nd, according to Officer Daniel Strassenberg from the Public Information Office. The main objective of this patrol was to promote safe driving practices and encourage people to wear their safety belts as required by state law.

During the eight-hour enforcement emphasis, a total of 123 infractions were issued. These included 24 speeding tickets, 17 cell phone violations, 33 seatbelt violations, and 22 violations for not having insurance. In addition, eight drivers were arrested for driving with a suspended license and one driver was arrested for not having an ignition interlock device.

Officer Strassenberg stated that this snapshot provides insight into the number of drivers who are operating their vehicles in an unsafe manner, whether it be due to distractions or not wearing safety belts. The SPD Traffic Unit is dedicated to ensuring the safe movement of all traffic in Spokane, including vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. They urge everyone to travel safely so that we can all return home to our loved ones every day.
