Springfield: Bicyclist killed in vehicle crash

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. ~ On the night of December 24, 2025, a tragic accident occurred at the intersection of Chestnut Expressway and Campbell Avenue in Springfield, Missouri. According to reports from the Springfield Police Department, officers responded to a crash involving a bicyclist at 11:49 p.m.
The victim was identified as 65-year-old Daniel Oropeza, a resident of Springfield. He was riding his bicycle southbound on Campbell Avenue in the northbound lanes when he was struck by a 2012 Chevy Impala driven by 35-year-old Michael Casteel from Nixa. Oropeza suffered serious injuries and was immediately transported to the hospital for treatment.

Sadly, on December 30, the Greene County Medical Examiner's Office notified the police department that Oropeza had passed away. His family has been informed of his death.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact the Springfield Police Department or make an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers. This incident marks Springfield's 23rd fatal vehicle crash of 2025, resulting in a total of 24 deaths.
