Springfield: Fatality crash

~ A tragic single-vehicle crash occurred in Springfield on October 29, resulting in the death of the driver, Steven Constance. The Springfield Police Department was alerted to the incident at 10:07 a.m. and quickly dispatched officers to the scene near Norton and Barnes.

According to reports, Constance, a 70-year-old resident of Arkansas City, Kan., was driving a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound on I-44 when he veered off the roadway to the north. The vehicle then traveled approximately 1,000 yards along the side of the highway before crossing a water retention area south of a church at 3020 N. Barnes.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Jeep went airborne over Barnes and crashed through a fence surrounding Bill & Payne Stewart Golf Course before coming to rest on its roof after hitting a tree. Sadly, Constance did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities believe that a medical emergency may have been the cause of the accident, although an official cause of death has yet to be confirmed. Next of kin has been notified about this tragic incident.

This marks the sixteenth fatality crash in Springfield for 2017, highlighting the importance of safe driving practices and being aware of potential medical emergencies while behind the wheel.
