~ As part of the City's ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity, Miller Avenue will be closed for several weeks between Mt. Vernon and Tarkio streets. This closure is necessary for the completion of the Mt. Vernon and Miller Sidewalk Improvement Project.

According to city officials, Mt. Vernon Street is expected to reopen to traffic on Thursday, Oct. 16 between Lulwood Avenue and Miller Avenue. However, motorists should be aware that sidewalk construction on Mt. Vernon will not be fully complete at this time. As a result, intermittent lane closures can be expected over the next few weeks as crews continue their work. Drivers are advised to follow posted signage and watch for flaggers in the area.

Once Mt. Vernon Street reopens, construction crews will shift their focus to Miller Avenue, which is anticipated to close for several weeks beginning Oct. 17. This closure is necessary for the installation of new sidewalk segments and utility improvements associated with the project.

To minimize disruption for motorists, a marked detour will be in place via Mt. Vernon, Casa Grande Ave, and Tarkio Street during the closure of Miller Avenue.

The Mt. Vernon and Miller Sidewalk Project aims to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity by installing new sidewalk segments along both streets. In addition to sidewalks, certain areas will also see improvements in stormwater drainage, sanitary sewer systems, and gas/water lines.

JD Wallace Contracting, LLC has been selected as the contractor for this project which is expected to cost approximately $813,000. The majority of funding will come from Federal Transportation Alternatives Program funds with additional contributions from Clean Water Enterprise Funds, City Utilities reimbursements, and sales tax funds.

The project is scheduled for completion this fall and city officials are urging motorists to plan accordingly for potential delays during this time period.
