The impact caused the van to spin and roll. Claxton and her passenger Shirley Ducker, 71, from Springfield were both injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Ducker succumbed to her injuries on December 23 at 6:43 p.m.

Further investigation revealed that neither Ducker nor Claxton were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Claxton was treated and released from the hospital but was later arrested for an outstanding warrant.
