Springfield police investigate officer-involved shooting

Springfield, Mo. ~ On November 21, 2024, at 12:06 a.m., Springfield police officers were called to the scene near Golden Avenue and Division Street to check on the well-being of a man who was reportedly making suicidal statements while in possession of a firearm. Upon arrival, the officers encountered the man who proceeded to point his weapon at both them and nearby citizens. The man then began walking towards Ohara Avenue and Division Street.
Despite attempts to communicate with the individual, he once again aimed his firearm at the officers. In response, one of the officers discharged their duty weapon, striking the man once. He was immediately taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, no officers or citizens were harmed during the incident.

As per protocol, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation takes place. Additionally, a criminal investigation is also underway and its findings will be presented to the Greene County Prosecutor's Office for review. The Springfield Police Department urges anyone struggling with mental health issues to seek help and reminds citizens that they are committed to ensuring public safety in all situations.
