Tacoma: 2026 Historic Preservation Awards on May 21

~ The Tacoma Landmarks Preservation Commission will be hosting the 2026 Historic Preservation Awards on May 21 at the Fort Nisqually Living History Museum. The event, which will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., aims to recognize and honor community members who have made significant contributions towards preserving and enhancing Tacoma's unique character.

This annual event is open to the public and will be held at the Fort Nisqually Living History Museum located at 5519 Five Mile Dr. within Point Defiance Park. Attendees can expect complimentary refreshments as they celebrate the critical work of individuals and organizations in preserving Tacoma's heritage.

The awards ceremony will feature various categories, each with its own deserving recipient. The Excellence in Preservation award will be presented to the Clerks House Reconstruction project at Fort Nisqually Living History Museum. This year also marks the introduction of a new award category, Outstanding Achievement in Cultural Preservation, which will be given to Noir Preneurship.

Other notable recipients include Bob's Bar-B-Q Pit for Outstanding Heritage/Legacy Business, Wright Park Condos for Outstanding Achievement in Preservation as Housing, Brendan A. Nelson for Outstanding Achievement in Leadership in Preservation, Job Carr Cabin Museum for Outstanding Achievement in Partnerships in Preservation, South Tacoma Business District for Outstanding Achievement in Preservation as Neighborhood Revitalization, Oakland Secondary School for Outstanding Achievement in Renovation, Michael Lafreniere for Outstanding Innovation in Preservation and Outreach, and Professor Emeritus Michael Honey from University of Washington - Tacoma for Outstanding Career Achievement.
