Tacoma: Applicants Sought for the Commission on Immigrant and Refugee Affairs

~ The Tacoma City Council is currently seeking individuals to fill nine member positions and one Emerging Leader position on the Commission on Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (CIRA). This volunteer opportunity offers a chance to work closely with the City of Tacoma.
The Commission is made up of 13 members and an alternate, including one Emerging Leader who must be under the age of 25. Each term lasts for three years, unless filling an unexpired term. Members are expected to have experience or expertise in immigrant issues and a strong commitment to all immigrant and refugee communities.
The main goal of the Commission is to engage with Tacoma's immigrant and refugee communities in order to create an inclusive, intentional, and welcoming community together. They also work with community partners to identify and promote positive outcomes for this diverse population as well as for the city as a whole. The Commission recognizes the shared concerns for safety, housing, health, and equal access to opportunities for all families in Tacoma.

In line with their commitment to fostering an equitable and anti-racist organization, the City of Tacoma encourages individuals from all backgrounds to apply for these vacancies. This includes BIPOC individuals, LGBTQ+ individuals, those with disabilities, seniors, youth, immigrants, and refugees.
Applicants who are appointed will be required to complete training on the Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act within 90 days of their appointment. This training will be provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General.
