Tacoma: Applicants Sought for the Equity in Contracting Advisory Committee

~ The Tacoma City Council is currently seeking applicants to fill six positions on the Equity in Contracting Advisory Committee. This committee serves as an advisory panel to staff regarding the city's Equity in Contracting (EIC) policy. The council is looking for individuals who are committed to promoting equity and diversity within the city's contracting processes.
The committee consists of six positions, with three representing different council districts and three representing contractor representatives. The community member positions are open to residents of Council Districts one, three, and four, while the contractor representative positions are open to Certified Business Nos. 1 and 2, as well as an Open Shop Firm.
According to Tacoma Municipal Code Chapter 1.07, the committee's responsibilities include monitoring compliance with all provisions and regulations of the EIC policy, promoting awareness of the program, and providing advice on its overall performance effectiveness. However, it is important to note that the committee does not have any involvement in procurement decisions or program administration.

To be eligible for these positions, applicants must be residents of Tacoma or live or work in the TPU service area. They must also not hold any other elected public office or be an immediate family member of a City of Tacoma employee.
The City is dedicated to creating an equitable and anti-racist organization and aims for its committees, boards, and commissions to reflect the diversity of Tacoma's community. As such, all individuals are encouraged to apply for these vacancies regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability status, age, or immigration status.
If selected for a position on the committee, appointed applicants will be required to complete training on Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act within 90 days provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General.
