Tacoma: Community Event Funding Announced for 2026
TelAve News/10886184
~ The City of Tacoma's Events and Recognitions Committee (CERC) has recently announced their decision to reinvest $90,000 in venue revenue to support 28 organizations producing free public festivals and community events in 2026. This funding is made possible through a tax on food and beverages at events held at the Tacoma Dome and Greater Tacoma Convention Center.
The CERC, a volunteer panel, evaluates applications for funding through a competitive process based on merit, capacity, and community impact. The chosen organizations will receive grants ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 to cover direct costs such as traffic control, performers, marketing, and other essential expenses.
According to CERC vice chair Jacob Tice, this program aims to support events that strengthen connections within the community and celebrate its diverse cultures. He stated that each event reflects the creativity and dedication of the Tacoma community and expressed excitement for their growth and success.
These free events are open to all ages and showcase various forms of art including music, performing arts, youth activities, multicultural traditions, heritage celebrations, literary and visual arts, food festivals, dance performances, and more. They are held in different neighborhoods across the city to reflect and celebrate Tacoma's diverse communities.
