TelAve News/10881610
~ Tacoma Creates, the innovative cultural access program in Washington state, has recently released its 2024-2025 Annual Report after successfully completing its fifth funding cycle. This report highlights the impact of the program in supporting and promoting arts, culture, heritage, and science in the Tacoma community.
Over the course of this funding cycle, Tacoma Creates distributed a total of $6 million to 69 local non-profit organizations dedicated to advancing these important areas. Through a competitive funding process, these organizations were able to offer nearly 1,500 cultural programs and events for the benefit of the community.
Mayor Victoria Woodards expressed her appreciation for Tacoma Creates' support in helping cultural organizations achieve long-term sustainability and increase access to their programs. She noted that during the 2024-2025 program year, many organizations utilized this funding to invest in staffing, form collaborations within and outside of the cultural sector, and strengthen their infrastructure. Additionally, Tacoma Creates has played a crucial role in creating paid work opportunities for artists and other cultural workers who contribute significantly to the local creative economy.

Katie Mattran, Chair of Tacoma Creates Advisory Board, emphasized the program's commitment to supporting both large cultural institutions as well as smaller community-based organizations. She highlighted their essential role in contributing to Tacoma's creative ecosystem and economy by providing a diverse range of programming that enriches the community at all levels.
The report also revealed that more than one-third of all programs supported by Tacoma Creates were focused on youth education. This included partnerships with Tacoma Public Schools where funded organizations provided programming for all elementary and middle schools and most high schools. The program also supported bus transportation for 280 cultural field trips for students from third grade through seventh grade.
In addition to school-based programs, Tacoma Creates-funded organizations also offered nearly 250 presentations and workshops at various branches of Tacoma Public Library. These free opportunities attracted people of all ages to experience arts, culture, heritage, and science in a unique way.

Furthermore, more than 60 percent of the organizations' funds were allocated towards producing programs and events in neighborhoods across the city, making arts and culture accessible to all. An interactive map showcasing these events is available on Tacoma Creates' website.
The 2024-2025 Annual Report is now available in both English and Spanish on tacomacreates.org. This comprehensive report showcases the positive impact of Tacoma Creates on the community and highlights its commitment to promoting arts, culture, heritage, and science for all.
