~ As of today, the City of Tacoma and Hilltop Artists are teaming up to offer a unique opportunity for residents to turn their recycled glass into beautiful works of art. The six-month pilot program, titled "This Is What We Make of It," aims to promote local production of specialty glass while also connecting recycling efforts with youth education, environmental stewardship, and the creative economy.

Residents can drop off clear bottles and float glass at the Tacoma Recycle Center on Mullen Street, where it will be processed into cullet. This cullet will then be used by Hilltop Artists staff and students in their glass education and production programs for youth.

The program, which will run until the end of February 2027, explores the possibility of a closed-loop system that would allow for local production of specialty glass. The resulting glass art will be used for various projects such as the creation of AMOCAT Arts Awards, hidden glass treasures throughout Tacoma, and other Hilltop Artists initiatives.
