~ As the Labor Day weekend approaches, Governor Greg Abbott has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of Texans. In anticipation of heavy rain and potential severe weather, the Governor has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate state emergency response resources.

In a statement released today, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of being prepared for severe weather. "Texas continues to closely monitor weather conditions for potential heavy rainfall across the state," he said. "Today, I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate state emergency response resources in anticipation of severe weather. Texans are urged to have an emergency plan, and heed the guidance of state and local officials to keep loved ones and themselves safe. Remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown."

According to the National Weather Service, a storm system is expected to move across Texas over the holiday weekend, bringing with it heavy rainfall that could impact West, North, Central, East, and Southeast Texas. This excessive rainfall may lead to hazardous travel conditions and flash flooding in some areas. As such, Texans are advised to pay close attention to local forecast information.
