Texas: Governor Abbott Amends, Renews Fire Weather Conditions Disaster Proclamation In May 2026

~ Governor Greg Abbott has declared a disaster in several counties in Texas due to ongoing fire weather conditions. The proclamation, issued on August 10, 2025 and subsequently amended and renewed, certifies that the increased fire weather conditions pose an imminent threat of widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management has confirmed that these dangerous conditions persist in certain counties. As a result, Governor Abbott has exercised his authority under Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code to amend and renew the proclamation.

The disaster has been declared in Armstrong, Bailey, Briscoe, Carson, Castro, Cochran, Collingsworth, Crosby, Dallam, Deaf Smith, Dickens, Donley, Floyd, Garza, Gray, Hale, Hall, Hansford, Hartley, Hemphill,Hockley,Hutchinson,Kent,Lamb,Lipscomb,Lubbock,Lynn,M oore,Motley,Ochiltree ,Oldham ,Parmer,Potter,Randall ,Roberts,Sherman ,Swisher,Terry,Wheeler,and Yoakum Counties.

In accordance with Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code,Governor Abbott has authorized the use of all available resources of state government and political subdivisions to cope with this disaster. Additionally,pursuant to Section 418.016,Governor Abbott has suspended any regulatory statutes or orders that would hinder necessary action in response to this disaster.

Furthermore,Governor Abbott has authorized the suspension of any state statutes or administrative rules regarding contracting or procurement if they impede emergency response efforts by state agencies necessary to protect life or property threatened by this declared disaster.

As required by law,copies of this proclamation will be filed with the appropriate authorities. Governor Abbott signed the proclamation on May 8th ,2026 at his office in Austin,Texas and it was attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson.
