Texas: Governor Abbott Announces Over $1.1 Million In Grants To Panhandle Veteran Service Organizations
TelAve News/10905235
~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that $1,106,000 in Funds for Veterans' Assistance (FVA) grants have been distributed to five organizations in the Panhandle region. This allocation of funds is part of the Texas Veterans Commission's (TVC) Grants Across Texas Tour and will provide services to an estimated 836 local veterans.
Governor Abbott expressed his commitment to supporting veterans, stating, "In Texas, we care about the well-being of our veterans. These grants will provide crucial assistance so the brave men and women who served in our nation's military will prosper in the Panhandle. Texas will always remember and honor the sacrifices that our veterans and their families have made for our country."
The TVC Deputy Executive Director and Army veteran Shawn Deabay also shared his gratitude for the organizations that support Texas veterans on a daily basis. He stated, "We're incredibly thankful for the organizations across Texas that show up every day to support Texas veterans and their families. This grant strengthens that work. It's great seeing the community give back to those who served."

The FVA grant recipients and their services include Cornerstone Community Action Agency receiving $300,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes and $300,000 for Financial Assistance; Lubbock County receiving $25,000 for Pro Bono Legal Services; Lubbock Regional MHMR Center receiving $200,000 for Financial Assistance; The Salvation Army – Abilene receiving $200,000 for Financial Assistance; and Potter County receiving $81,000 for Veterans Treatment Court.
This announcement follows TVC Commissioners' approval of 190 grants totaling more than $40.8 million to 160 organizations across Texas in May. These grants are expected to directly benefit over 125,600 veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses throughout the state.
Since 2009 through the current 2026-2027 grant cycle, over $400 million in grant funding has been awarded through 1,790 FVA grants. These grants support a wide range of services, including emergency financial assistance, transportation, legal services, family support services, and home modification to rental and mortgage assistance.
For veterans in need of assistance, the Grant Services Directory provides information on organizations that offer help in their area and how to contact them. The TVC remains committed to supporting Texas veterans and their families through these grants and other initiatives.
