~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that Lamar State College Orange will be receiving a Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant of $489,624. This grant is in partnership with Arlanxeo, Chevron Phillips Chemical, and Indorama Ventures and will be used to provide customized training for 241 workers in high-demand careers.

According to Governor Abbott, this partnership between the state and colleges across Texas is crucial in strengthening the workforce and meeting the needs of the growing economy. He believes that these grants will not only help Texans gain the necessary skills for success but also assist employers in accessing skilled workers to grow their businesses and create new opportunities.

TWC Chairman Joe Esparza also expressed his support for this investment in the workforce through the SDF program. He stated that this grant will pave the way for economic prosperity for Texans by providing tailored instruction to over 240 individuals. The training will prepare them for high-demand careers such as lab technicians, machinists, nurses, and other vital positions.

Earlier today, TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III presented the award to representatives from Lamar State College Orange, Arlanxeo USA, Chevron Phillips Chemical, Indorama Ventures Oxides, and other local partners during a ceremony held at Lamar State College Orange.

The SDF program is a workforce training grant program that aims to upskill new or incumbent workers in businesses across Texas. In collaboration with public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards, and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, TWC provides customized and innovative training to businesses of all sizes.

Since its inception in 1996, the SDF grant program has partnered with over 5,000 employers to upgrade or create more than 446,000 jobs throughout Texas. This highlights its significant impact on the state's economy and workforce development. With this latest grant awarded to Lamar State College Orange and its partners, it is clear that the SDF program will continue to play a crucial role in preparing Texans for high-demand careers and supporting businesses in their growth.
