Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Fourteen To Task Force On Modernizing Manufacturing

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently appointed fourteen individuals to the Task Force on Modernizing Manufacturing in Texas. The task force, which will study the modernization of manufacturing in the state, is set to expire on September 1, 2027.

Among the appointees is Nathan Byman, a resident of Austin and founder and president of Wolfram Manufacturing, Inc. Byman holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Business Administration from Rice University.

Ian Weiswurm, CEO of Innovation Technology Machinery in New Braunfels, has also been appointed to the task force. Weiswurm received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Tarleton State University.

Allan Couch, Vice President of Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Engineering at Urgo Medical North America, LLC in McKinney, is another member of the task force. Couch holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri and a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University.

Thomas McNutt, fourth-generation family Owner-Operator at Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana, has also been appointed. McNutt received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Texas A&M University (TAMU), a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry from Dallas Baptist University, and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration from Southeastern University.

Ryan Gustafson, Vice President and General Manager at Caterpillar Inc. based in Seguin, is another member of the task force. Gustafson holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University and a Master of Science in Management from Purdue University.

Glenn Isbell, Vice President of Prototyping at Bell Textron in Aledo, has also been appointed to the task force. Isbell holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from TAMU and a Master of Business Administration from Texas Christian University.

Jason Shawhan, Site Plant Manager for Tesla's Giga Factory in Texas, is another member of the task force. Shawhan holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Mississippi State University.

Malena Gonzalez, Vice President of Customer Transformation at Schneider Electric in Cedar Park, has also been appointed. Gonzalez holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Accounting from Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education and a Master of Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Joe Esparza, Chairman of the Texas Workforce Commission and resident of Oatmeal, is another member of the task force. Esparza holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Texas Tech University.

Lacy Wolf, Principal Industry Liaison for building, constructing, and manufacturing for the Gulf Coast Workforce Board and Business Manager for the Mechanical Insulators of Local 22 in Houston, has also been appointed. Wolf received an Associate in Construction Management from the National Labor College and Houston Community College.

Nahum Pacheco Salazar, Senior Director for Employer Partnerships at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in Austin, is another member of the task force. Pacheco received his Bachelor of Science in Corporate Communications from UT Austin.

Larry McManus, Director of Business Development at the Office of the Governor's Economic Development and Tourism Office in Round Rock, has also been appointed. McManus holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from UT El Paso.

Jamie Moreno, Business Agent for Teamsters Local 767 in Fort Worth, is another member of the task force.

Lastly, Monica Martinez has been appointed to the task force as well. Martinez serves as Associate Commissioner for Standards and Programs at the Texas Education Agency. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy with a focus on Education Policy from Brown University and a Master of Business Administration from UT Austin.

The task force is expected to bring a diverse range of expertise and perspectives to the study of modernizing manufacturing in Texas. Their terms will expire on September 1, 2027.
