Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Friedrichs As Governor's Criminal Justice Division Executive Director

~ Austin, TX- Governor Greg Abbott has announced the appointment of Andrew Friedrichs as the new Director of the Governor's Criminal Justice Division, effective March 1, 2026. Friedrichs, who currently serves as the executive director for the Commission on State Emergency Communications, will be taking over from his previous role as deputy director of the division.
Friedrichs brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having also served in the United States Navy and holding a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Arts in criminology from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

As Director, Friedrichs will oversee all operations and initiatives within the Governor's Criminal Justice Division, also known as the Governor's Public Safety Office. His term is set to expire at the pleasure of Governor Abbott. This appointment is expected to bring positive changes and advancements to Texas' criminal justice system.
