Texas: Governor Abbott, AT&T Deliver 150 Laptops To Los Fresnos CISD Students
TelAve News/10890508
~ In a celebration of 150 years of communications innovation, Governor Greg Abbott joined forces with AT&T to distribute laptops to students in the Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) today.
The event, held at Los Fresnos High School, was attended by several notable figures including Senator Adam Hinojosa, Representative Janie Lopez, and Los Fresnos CISD Education Foundation Chair Adan Garcia. Also present were AT&T Texas division President Leslie Ward and AT&T South Texas division Vice President Adrian Quintanilla.
During his speech, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of career and technical education for students' future success. "The reason why we're here is because 150 seniors have demonstrated that they're either ready to go to college or ready to go straight into a career," he stated. "Over the past two years, we've invested $7 billion in career and technical education, knowing how important that is for our students."
AT&T South Region President Leslie Ward also spoke at the event, highlighting the company's role in connecting people and businesses for the past 150 years. "What began with a single phone call in 1876 has become a way of life – and AT&T has been there every step of the way at the forefront of connecting people and businesses," she said.

The laptops were funded through a collaboration between AT&T, Compudopt, and the Los Fresnos CISD Education Foundation. The foundation's chairperson Adan Garcia expressed his gratitude for the support from these organizations. "The Los Fresnos CISD Education Foundation is where dreams meet determination," he said. "Our vision is a district where every individual's aspirations are met with unparalleled support."
The laptops were given to 150 graduating seniors as a symbol of their achievements and as a way to prepare them for their future endeavors. Governor Abbott personally handed out some of the laptops to students during the event.
This initiative is part of the state's efforts to invest in career and technical education and provide students with the necessary tools for success. The event was a celebration of both the students' achievements and the 150th anniversary of the first telephone call.
As the event came to a close, Governor Abbott expressed his appreciation for everyone involved in making this laptop distribution possible. "We are going to be handing out laptops to 150 seniors, seniors who have demonstrated the brand of excellence you are able to achieve here in the state of Texas," he said.
Photos from the event will be made available for viewing. This collaboration between AT&T, Compudopt, and Los Fresnos CISD Education Foundation serves as a testament to their commitment to supporting local students and their education.
