With over 190 counties categorized as rural in Texas, this means providing access to quality healthcare for more than 6 million Texans. He thanked Secretary Kennedy and President Trump for prioritizing rural regions in their efforts to improve healthcare.

Secretary Kennedy also commended Governor Abbott for his dedication to rural healthcare providers in Texas and thanked President Trump for his "One Big Beautiful Bill" which includes a provision for Rural Health Transformation that will provide $50 billion in support across the United States. At the press conference, Governor Abbott and Secretary Kennedy reiterated recent investments into rural healthcare at both the state and federal level. These include $300 million in state funds and $100 million a year for the next five years in federal funds for behavioral telehealth, AI innovation, and the transformation of rural health laboratories.
