Texas: Governor Abbott, Secretary Kennedy Hold Rural Healthcare Roundtable, Press Conference
TelAve News/10873741
~ In a joint effort to improve rural healthcare in Texas, Governor Greg Abbott and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. participated in a roundtable discussion with various stakeholders from the state's rural healthcare industry. The discussion was followed by a press conference where the leaders highlighted recent investments and initiatives aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of Texans living in rural areas.
During the roundtable, Governor Abbott and Secretary Kennedy focused on the Rural Healthcare Transformation Program and how it can continue to improve health outcomes for those living in rural communities. The Governor also took the opportunity to highlight the Make Texas Healthy Again package, which he signed into law just a day prior. This package aims to empower Texans to make better health and nutrition decisions, with the support of the Trump Administration and Secretary Kennedy.
The roundtable participants, including representatives from hospitals, health clinics, and mental health services, emphasized the importance of investing in both physical and mental healthcare efforts across Texas. They also celebrated recent legislative wins during the 89th session that address gaps in maternity services, childcare, mental health services, and expand rural hospital grant programs. However, Governor Abbott acknowledged that there is still work to be done and reassured his commitment to fighting for the health and safety of Texans for generations to come.

Secretary Kennedy also commended Governor Abbott for his dedication to rural healthcare providers in Texas and thanked President Trump for his "One Big Beautiful Bill" which includes a provision for Rural Health Transformation that will provide $50 billion in support across the United States. He promised to strengthen and expand rural health like never before, not just for Texas but for all Americans.
At the press conference, Governor Abbott and Secretary Kennedy reiterated recent investments into rural healthcare at both the state and federal level. These include $300 million in state funds and $100 million a year for the next five years in federal funds for behavioral telehealth, AI innovation, and the transformation of rural health laboratories.
