~ In light of ongoing security operations, road blockages, and criminal activity in Mexico, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has urged all Texans currently in the country to closely follow warnings from the U.S. Department of State. The department has advised U.S. citizens in certain Mexican states to shelter in place until further notice.

The affected states include Baja California, Jalisco, Quintana Roo, and areas of Guanajuato, Guerrero, Michoacan, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas. Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of staying informed and following the guidance of U.S. officials to ensure the safety of Texans abroad.

"Texans' safety is my top priority, whether they are here at home or traveling abroad," said Governor Abbott. "I urge all Texans in Mexico to follow the guidance of U.S. officials, stay alert, and ensure they are in contact with the U.S. Embassy or nearest U.S. Consulate."

The governor has been briefed on the latest developments regarding violence and security concerns in Mexico and is taking proactive steps to coordinate with federal partners to safeguard Texans abroad.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is actively working with the U.S. Department of State and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to monitor the evolving security situation and share information to support the safety of American citizens.

To ensure personal safety during this time, Governor Abbott and Texas officials recommend heeding federal warnings by monitoring travel advisories and security alerts issued by the U.S. Department of State and local U.S. Embassy offices.

Texans in need of immediate assistance or guidance can call either 1-202-501-4444 (from outside the U.S.) or 1-888-407-4747 (from inside the U.S.) for help from the U.S. Department of State or 1-844-927-0521 for assistance from the Texas Fusion Center.

It is also advised to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive real-time alerts and make it easier for the U.S. government to assist in an emergency. Additionally, it is important to maintain contact with family and friends, avoid high-risk areas, and follow local and federal instructions.

In the event of a shelter-in-place or travel restriction guidance issued by authorities, it is crucial to follow those instructions immediately. This includes seeking shelter, minimizing unnecessary movements, avoiding areas around law enforcement activity, and monitoring local media for updates.

Governor Abbott's office and DPS will continue to monitor developments and coordinate with federal partners to ensure Texans receive timely information as the situation evolves. It is also recommended to keep copies of important documents, emergency contact numbers for the U.S. Embassy or nearest Consulate, and have a reliable means of communication in case of emergencies.

The safety of Texans remains a top priority for Governor Abbott and his team as they work closely with federal partners to address the ongoing security concerns in Mexico.
