Texas Innovates' Inaugural Cohort companies NitroFix and 1s1 Energy Awarded BIRD Energy Grant to Advance Next-Generation Green Ammonia Technology
TelAve News/10865585
~ Israeli climate tech startup NitroFix and California-based developer 1s1 Energy have been awarded a Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Energy grant to collaborate on an innovative green ammonia generator. The joint project aims to accelerate the transition to low-carbon fuels by combining NitroFix's breakthrough ammonia production technology with 1s1 Energy's unique membrane materials and electrochemical stack design.
The partnership between NitroFix and 1s1 Energy was first established through the CHILI (Carbon and Hydrogen Innovation and Learning Incubator) program, created by Texas Innovates. As a regional USGC 501c3 non-profit committed to supporting early-stage energy transition companies, Texas Innovates provides education and collaboration opportunities for clean-tech pioneers. The CHILI program specifically focuses on supporting early-stage climate tech companies in CO2 and H2, bridging the gap between innovation ecosystems.

Daniel Sobek, CEO of 1s1 Energy, expressed his appreciation for the CHILI program, stating that it helped his team solidify their go-to-market strategy, explore synergies with fellow clean-tech pioneers, and gain valuable insights from elite investors and corporates shaping the future of energy. Ophira Melamed, CEO of Nitrofix, also praised the CHILI program for its support in connecting with peers, gaining fresh insights, and learning from others in the industry.
The BIRD Energy grant is jointly funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Israel Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. It supports strategic partnerships that address critical energy challenges with high-impact technologies. The NitroFix-1s1 Energy project specifically targets the development of a modular, scalable ammonia generator that can operate on water, air, and renewable electricity - providing a zero-emission alternative to fossil-derived ammonia.
Dr. Ophira Melamed, CEO of NitroFix, expressed her excitement about partnering with 1s1 Energy to push the boundaries of clean ammonia innovation. She believes that this collaboration will allow them to combine their core electrochemical expertise with 1s1 Energy's advanced membrane materials, accelerating commercialization and offering a decentralized solution for agriculture, energy storage, and maritime fuel applications. Dr. Dan Sobek, CEO of 1s1 Energy, also shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it provides a unique opportunity to apply their membrane and stack technology to a critical energy application.
