Thinkybooks launches the best way to make a children's book: your kid as the hero, Grandma's voice

TelAve News/10910042
Prompt Engines' new app writes the story, draws the characters, lets the child choose what happens next, and reads it aloud in a family member's own voice

AUSTIN, Texas - TelAve -- Thinkybooks launched today with a simple promise. Type one line, like "our dog goes to the moon," and in under three minutes a child can be listening to their grandmother read a brand-new story in which they are the one who saves the day.

Nobody has to draw anything, write anything or wait for a box in the mail. Thinkybooks, formerly Storybook Studio, was built by Prompt Engines, an AI company in Austin. It's free to start and doesn't ask for a credit card.

One line in, a finished book out

Thinkybooks is fully automatic. A set of AI agents handles the jobs a parent would otherwise do by hand: designing the characters, writing the story, illustrating each page and recording the narration. Parents can edit any page afterward. They don't have to.

Characters start from a photo or a sentence: your daughter, the dog, Grandpa, or "a shy dragon with round glasses." Thinkybooks draws them in any of 37 art styles and keeps them consistent, so the dragon's glasses are on page 12 as well as page 1.

The child picks what happens next

Thinkybooks writes choose-your-own-adventure books with real decision points and more than one ending. Cross the rope bridge, or follow the fox? The child taps a choice and the story goes that way.

The voice they already know

Any book can be read aloud in a family member's voice. Grandma records about 12 to 60 seconds of clear speech, and Thinkybooks turns it into a narrator. The voice stays private to the family's account, and Thinkybooks asks for the speaker's permission before anyone makes one.

Thinkybooks also has a free library of read-aloud books for kids ages 1 to 12, with no account needed. Favorite stories can be printed, starting at $10.

"I build AI systems for a living, and the best thing I've built is the one my kids ask for at bedtime," said Adil Islam, founder of Thinkybooks. "Pictures are nice. A story with your name in it is nice. But when a kid hears their grandmother read a story about the brave thing they did today, they stop wiggling. That moment is the whole product. Grandparents don't always live down the street. Now Grandma can read a new story every night anyway. It's the best way to make a children's book, and it takes less time than finding pajamas."
